Another Loom Knit Purse, and a Scarf!

This purse I loom knit for a friend of mine as a surprise gift -

Front:

Back:

I made it to match the hat that I had previously made for her, using the popcorn bobble stitch pattern ( http://loomdude.blogspot.com/2010/11/no-more-pumpkins-for-now.html ). I made this purse in the same way that I made the other two, but this time I used Hometown USA Oakland Black.

In progress (the inside lining is on the left):

I also hid the bottom part of the handles a lot better than my first two attempts. And for the first time I used a label with my name on it – Loom Dude.

I found a nice button at the department store that added just enough contrast to the knitting without drawing too much attention to itself. I knew I wanted to use a button for a latch that was a flower in shape. I found a plastic black one that is multifaceted and reflects the light when it moves. Overall, the purse was a success, and the recipient was overjoyed at receiving it.An elegant little purse that would go perfectly with a little black dress, right?

Next, someone asked me to knit a grey and black scarf for them, and they wanted a solid dark grey color. At first I didn’t think that a dark grey and black would offer much contrast, and I didn’t see any Homespun greys that were extremely dark. Finally I settled on Homespun Black and Edwardian.

Edwardian is not a solid gray when you look at it, but when it knits up it has a soft, silvery sheen to it that is just awesome. The person I knit it for loved it.

New scarf, blue scarf...

I've been pretty busy lately, what with digging out from 14-16 inches of snow on Wednesday, and working on various knitting projects. I completed another scarf for a coworker, and here it is below:

The coworker who ordered it said it was for his Mom, who has a dark blue coat with a purple lining. At first I was going to see if I could pair a purple yarn with a dark blue, but it just didn't look right. So I tried using a lighter shade of purple, and it still wasn't working. I did all this in the store, I didn't buy any of it :).

Finally I found Lion Brand Homespun Tudor and paired it with Homespun Colonial, which is a rich, dark blue, and it worked just right. What was so nice about Tudor was that blue and purple are interwoven throughout the white yarn. It turned out that I started the scarf using Tudor white/purple, which transitioned to white/blue just when I was about to start using Colonial. It makes it look as though the blue from the Colonial bled into the white of the Tudor:

And it picks us aspects of the purple from the lining in her jacket, without being overwhelming. The coworker liked it very much. I had never used Colonial before, but the color was so rich and beautiful that it made me want to make something for myself!

Scarves and mittens too

I finished the scarves for my coworkers and am about to start another for a coworker's spouse. Also, someone out of the blue asked me to knit a pair of mittens for them! So I will be posting the results of that project on this blog as well. So much to knit, so little time...

Scarf city

On Friday I finished the scarf from the previous post and gave it to my coworker, who was delighted with it. It looked just right on him. Another coworker who was in the room was taken with the scarf as soon as he saw it. He ordered one from me just like it on the spot! Pretty neat. Then as I was walking out of the building that day I was telling someone else about how I made scarves and he ordered one too! This is so cool! I expect ot have them all ready by the end of the week, if not by Monday.

When I went to the craft store to purchase the yarn on Saturday, a woman asked my opinion regarding the color of a scarf she was making for her son. I told her how I had made the one I was wearing and the projects I was buying my yarn for. We had a nice little chat. She put the yarn that I suggested in her basket, and we both went our separate ways.

Today I revised a list of knitting projects that will keep me busy throughout the rest of this year. I look forward to posting them here and sharing them.

Scarf almost done

I'm nearly done with the scarf someone asked me to make for them. I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease thick & quick navy and black yarn. They don't call it thick & quick for nothing! I got this far in just 7 hours using the pink loom! It's neat when you can see progress that quickly. For some reason, when people see my personal scarf which I made extra long, they want theirs long too. This scarf will be about 6 feet long when I'm done. I love long scarves.

At first I wasn't sure the combination of navy and black would contrast enough, but it looks fine. From across the room you probably can't see the different right away. Anyway, those are the colors he wanted.

New scarf order

I just received an order today for a scarf! I'm pretty excited about it because scarves are fun to make and it's nice to know that something you made is helping keep someone warm. In the meantime, I am continuing to make yarn roses and hope to make some neat things using them.

Scarf update

The person I sold the scarf I knitted a few days ago got back to me and said their son was delighted with his new scarf! He kept raving about it. That makes me feel good, to know that I was a part of making a special gift for someone, and knowing that they are wearing it!

New scarf

I'm knitting a scarf for a paying customer; boy, it feels good to say that! I expect to have it done tomorrow and give it to her tomorrow. Scarves are probably the easiest thing to make, and this one is no exception. I love seeing how quickly they progress. She already saw the part I knitted so far and is anxious to have it completed. Do you need a scarf too? Let me know!

A new scarf for my sweetie

I made another scarf for my wife this year for Christmas. This time I chose Lion Brand Hometown USA Cleveland Brown and Los Angeles Tan Super Bulky yarn. It took me about 8 hours to make the scarf, partly because I used 3 different kinds of stitches to make it. I used a regular stitch for the white part, then for the brown I used a ribbed stitch.

But once I got to the center of the scarf, I used an alternated ribbed stitch, just to add interest. It's hard to see it in the picture.

She loved it!
